GT

The GT evolved while working with team rider Matt Banting on his 2014 WQS campaign. After he won early in the year at Newcastle we knew the formula was working. After that event the winning board became his favourite go-to (hence the name ‘GT’) board. We made a couple of minor tweaks to the original file throughout the year to gain more drive off the back foot and the outcome is a very reliable surfboard with plenty of performance tucked away under the hood. Matt went on to finish as the highest qualifier on last years WQS and win his maiden WSL heat this week at Snapper Rocks with the GT under foot. The GT suits many other surfers who are chasing a board with drive and plenty of spark.

Recommended with a rounded square tail but also works really well with a round pin especially when the waves are a bit juicier.

Matt rides 5'10.5" x 18 5/8" x 2 1/4" 25.7 L (Matt is 70 kg)

Chubby Chedda

Designed by Luke Short, the Chubby Chedda is a refined version of the original Chubby Checker, a favourite of many including Julian Wilson when he’s free surfing or pushing it in expression sessions.

Luke widened the outline slightly while adding a subtle hip behind the front fins, adding more whip through turns. The concaves are also deeper, creating more ‘get up and go’, and the tail rocker has been accentuated for the perfect blend of speed and responsiveness.

The Chubby Chedda is best described as a ‘performance-hybrid’, and should be ridden at least two inches shorter than your standard high performance short board. And if push comes to shove, the design will hold its own in overhead surf as well.

ARP

This model has derived from years of refinement, testing and more refinement to create the key board for All Round Performance surfing. The rocker is moderate, smooth and continuous in union with a clean outline to create drive and speed.

The bottom contains a single concave through out; a small double within the single among the fins generating lift with control. Rails are of medium volume to allow run but also to keep things responsive.

This season we have altered the balance of bottom rocker by slightly dropping the nose and increasing the tail, enabling a hard drive off the front foot and a free and alive response off the top. Also assists with get up and go for paddle and all round speed.

Modern Lover

The Modern Lover is the contemporary performance short board. Proportionably wider outline in the nose and tail creating a more parallel outline for added drive and additional area for paddle and planing speed. A tad flatter deck increasing rail volume. Fuller softer forgiving forward rails. Deeper concave for more lift and livelieness, a mini double concave within the single amongst the fins and vee out off the tail all to help with speed and control. This a very versatile model, from surfing a six foot point break to your local two foot beachy. The Modern Lover can be ridden 1 inch shorter and 1/4+ wider than your older conventional crappy short board. Below are the recommended dims with volumes. We are also happy to customise.

The Tex

The Tex is a super stubby little thing for when the waves are super small or you’re just feeling lazy.

The bloated girth and thickness of Tex will get you trimming and turning on any wave that breaks. The contemporary single into double concaves gives this craft plenty of spark.  A balanced outline combined with a large round squash tail helps with the control of this little animal.

The Tex should be ordered approximately 6 inches shorter than or three four liters more than your conventional short board.

The Phoenix

One of the biggest challenges in the design world of surfboards believe it or not is to create a grommet board that works.

Fifteen years ago these challenges began with a very young and small Julian Wilson, more recently with my own three kids. We found success back then hand shaping these mini crafts, it was bloody hard work.

But having these as a solid reference we’ve been able to move forward with cad cutting design software and develop the user friendly all round board for groms to have fun and shred on.

The grom board has to have enough volume so the little guy/girl can catch waves while at the same time maintaining flow and sensitivity, enabling the grom to easily turn the board.

The Phoenix is an all round board for accomplished little shredders and can be ordered a size up for the novice.

Renegade Blue

The Renegade is a personal favourite of Luke’s. He liked the glide and free feeling of the retro type Fishes, but wanted a board that would fit into steeper sections and could be pushed a bit harder.
Full semi round nose with wide-ish tail provides the glide feeling.  Lower rocker throughout, makes it easy for speed and drive. Single concave with a decent double within, adding lift and a double concave with vee off the tail for easy turn initiation.

Luke redesigned the Renegade without the wing and change the tail shape to a widish rounded square, for more hold and cleaner surfing. This board has been a refreshing and fun board for team riders Julian and Noa to get onto, especially after the contest grind.

To be ridden around 5 inches shorter, 1 inch wider and 1/8 thicker than your conventional performance shortboard… Enjoy

Chubby Checka

This model was put together with team rider Julian Wilson - he wanted a fun small wave board that he could still rip the bag out of.

The nose rocker is low to get things up and going, with more of a performance board tail rocker, allowing the board to get vertical and whippy when needed. The outline is full/chubby and this is where a lot of planing speed comes from. The rail volume is similar to a normal performance board so you can feel the rail in the water. Single concave throughout, with a decent double under the back foot making it easy to roll over from rail to rail. LSD has been making this model with a wide rounded square to keep the tail free.

This year we have modified the tail changing it up to a Diamond, this shortens the rail line making things even more whippy.  Three fin set up. To be ridden around 3 to 4 inches shorter, 1 inch wider and a 1/16 thicker than your conventional shortboard.

Julian’s Chubby Checka is a 5’7” x 19” x 2 5/16” EPS/Epoxy construction.

Flashback

The Flashback is a retro style fish, combined with today’s more forgiving rails and lighter weight materials. This model is so much fun and also presents a whole different feel to surfing. It’s for waves from 6 inches to 3 foot or bigger if you are up for a bit of fun with a challenge. The low rocker together with plenty of surface area of the Flashback allows it to plane in small and the weakest of conditions.

Recommended with a 4 fin set up for that extra grip through turns and off the bottom. To be ordered approximately 4 – 6 inches shorter, 1 1/2 inches wider and 1/8 of an inch thicker than your standard short board. Available in sizes 5’5” up to 6’6”.

Gun

My guns have been developed over a number of years of research with the team and myself surfing in Hawaii, Mexico and Indonesia. The transition from your short board to your Gun should be an easy one. Taking into account more power of the bigger waves and the higher speeds you travel. The concaves have been toned down and the tail foils thinned out a tad.

The gun range has been proportionately based from the performance board range,  this to create a special friend that you know and can trust. When the waves are a scary 8 to 10 foot, it can be the only friend you’ll have. The board should hold in and change direction with a sense of security under your feet, no matter how fast you’re going.

A pin or rounded pin-tail is generally the go for maximum hold. I have also been playing around with mini swallows which have been feeling good. Available 6’4” up to 8’0”(Bigger if you are a major charger or you want to talk it up to your mates).

Double Dish

This board has been developed as a small wave board yet still trying to keep a performance feeling. The over all smooth rocker is on the lower side, together with a fuller outline to get you up and going fast without too much effort. A full single concave also helps with lift and speed; Within the single is a deep double concave increasing acceleration when over on the rail and also helps with control at higher speed.

The rails are not too chunky so the board can be easily dominated through turns.  This model with the 4 fin setup has been a favourite of Julian’s as his groveler and busting the odd waft or 50. Works best with a swallow. To be ordered 1/2” wider and 1” to 2” shorter than your conventional performance board.
